However, don't copy it yet! Hold down control and select all other civ_scientist models EG: civ_scientist, civ_scientist0, civ_scientist1 etc. You'd first need to export all of the models from BShift's pak files. Let's say you wanted the civilian scientist model from BShift in your map. Extract them to their own area, since some models are slightly different in different mods, eg: Barney is much paler in OpFor and BShift. Now, extract the models from the mod which has the models you want. IMPORTANT NOTE FOR HIGH DEFINITION PACK USERS: If you wish to stay in high definition mode, make sure you also extract the models from pak1, and overwrite the old files. Export all of the models to the valve directory, they'll automatically go to the models folder. Download Wally, and use it to explore the pak0 file in the valve folder. I know most people already know how to do this, but some people don't so don't go complaining.įirst, you will need a PAK explorer like Wally, which is available here. from mods like Blue Shift and Opposing Force with the original HL. Personally I like high quality, but I also like when everything mutually suits together and I can't say that about HL:S with the HD content enabled. This is a VERY basic tutorial explaining how to use models, textures etc. HD content would never exist in this game without the community and GearBox. some good points you've mentioned here and we can easily say, that HL:S HD version has never been finished, because valve never did care about that port. Far as the NPC models go they're an all round improvement, except IMO the SD zombie model looks "scarier" the way you can see the skull under the headcrabs skin. The HD pack uses an M4 for the "smg" and a Beretta 92fs for the handgun, while the 92fs fires 9mm rounds, the M4 fires 5.56x45 rounds, so it makes no sense for them to share ammo. ![]() So as to how it makes the game less realistic, in OG HL the "smg" is an mp5SD, which fires 9mm rounds just like the Glock17, aka the handgun, that's why the guns share ammo. well that last part is realistic XD, but keep in mind when this game came out it was considered to be far more "realistic" than other shooters, ie more real AI, needing to reload weapons, guns that don't spin hovering in the air. ![]() Originally posted by BulbmanX:One of the main reasons is because it detracts from the "realism" in the game, I know sounds ridiculous considering the aliens, secret facility, and government coverups. ![]() There are also other small files associated to the models that I didn't mention (PHY, ANI, VTX and VVD), but they're also not encrypted thus there's no need for any extra archives, 'master' or template files. and here you can obtain more info about the initial HD pack for HL:īesides all that, even if all copies would be lost, the GoldSrc HD files could be easily recovered from ' Blue Shift', because MDL (model), VMT (valve material type) and VTF (valve texture format) files are not encrypted and can be decompiled/edited with some appropriate software ' Blender' for MDL files, ' VTFEdit' for VMT and VTF files (the latter one may be edited even with ' Notepad'). The HD pack used in HL:S is mainly the GearBox one edited by a guy named Stone, who used some files from 'community-created improvement pack', and with a contribution from a guy named Fishman. Your statement is completely incorrect mate. Originally posted by wadmodder1999:Also, the version of the HD models included in Half-Life Source are a fan-made HD model pack, instead of the original Gearbox HD models, meaning that Valve couldn't get access to the original HD models from Gearbox's archives, or maybe because Gearbox lost the original HD model masters & templates used in Blue Shift, the PS2 version of Half-Life, and even the unreleased Dreamcast port.
